Youth Sailing

The instructors here at St Andrews Watersports are all experienced Nationally Accredited sailing instructors following an internationally recognised course syllabus.

Courses are delivered in groups of 6:1 pupils/instructor, having learnt over the years that kids achieve best results when participating in group activities; Learning with one another and making new friends along the way. 


All of our courses are designed to build personal knowledge, skill and confidence whilst ensuring a lot of fun is had both on and off the water.


Not sure if the kids will enjoy sailing? 

We have regular hourly taster sessions. Try sailing, before splashing out on a full course.

Sailing tasters run from May to November

Learn to Sail in two stages.
Stage 1 is a 2 day course
Stage 2 is a 3 day course

Stage 1 is where it all obviously begins and is scheduled over weekends as well as during the school holidays.

During the school holidays, both stages 1&2 can be completed over the period of 1 week.

Or if it better suits you or your child, you may split the the week over a period of time by completing Stage 1; enjoy your new found hobby by getting out sailing and then complete Stage 2 a few weeks later.


The courses cover; basic understanding of how a boat sails, steering and handling the boat, launching and recovery, steering, parts of the boat, basic sailing.

Getting serious!
The next stages;
Stage 3 is a 3 day course
Stage 4 is a 2 day course


As with the stages 1&2, choose to do a whole week with us and gain both stages.

Or, spread the stages over a period of time to gain practice and confidence.

The course covers; rigging, launching and recovery, sailing techniques, capsize recovery, sailing theory, manoeuvres in crewed boats, recovering a man overboard.
